"Yeah, I've got time."
- Other Way Around Achievement description
The Starlight Bottle (also known as the the Bottle of Starlight[1]), is a consumable item that spawns in the final room of The Backdoor, purchasable for 100 gold. It was added on March 15th, 2024 due to The Hunt: First Edition.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The Starlight Bottle appears as a medium-sized potion with Curious Light's symbol in a white color in the middle. The cork, similarly to the Starlight Vial, has a glowing circular line going around it.
Usage[edit | edit source]
The Starlight Bottle, when used, heals the player's health by 50% of their maximum health, gives them a temporary speed boost, and creates a small radius of light around them. If a player uses the Starlight Bottle at above half their health, the extra health points granted will be turned into "over-health" or, as it is called in-game, "Star-Shield", that drains quickly. The speed boost and light will vanish approximately 10 seconds after usage. The Starlight Bottle is consumed upon use.
If the Starlight Bottle is taken to The Hotel or The Mines, it can be used on the rift in The Reception, The Electrical Room, The Adit or The Woods to make Curious Light's Rift. This second rift is yellow in color, and can house 1 set of items, similarly to the guiding light rift. Unlike the Guiding Light rift, this rift will disappear if players take an item out of it - this includes attempts to swap items within it. Players can only have one additional rift - if a player places another Starlight Bottle within their original rift while they already have a second rift, the bottle will remain in the original rift as if it were any other item.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- Multiple Starlight Bottles cannot be taken in quick succession (and by extension players cannot stack its effects). After the effects wear off, players must wait a few seconds before using another.
- There are four ways for a player to obtain more than one Starlight Bottle in one game (however, only one can be held at a time):
- Collecting enough gold in The Backdoor to buy one Bottle, dropping it and picking up a new one (this is useful if the player took a lot of damage from the Lookman, since they can regenerate their health before heading to The Hotel).
- Picking the Bottle from a dead player who had it in their inventory.
- Placing the Bottle into the rift and collecting it on another run.
- Using the Admin Panel to summon one in the game.
- Starlight Bottles can be helpful in running through rooms quickly.
- If used at full health, players will be granted the HP as Star Shield.
- Players can't use more than one Starlight Bottle on the rift and, therefore can't have multiple rifts.
- If there is nothing placed in the smaller rift, it will stay there even after rejoining or playing different runs and still not putting an item in it.
- There is a death message by Guiding Light that appears when a player drinks the Starlight Bottle (at a low enough health to die) before Rush (or any other node entity) kills them. It reads, "I saw you drink something before your demise, but I can assure you that stuff isn't strong enough."
- Getting this death message requires a player to complete The Backdoor (with 100 coins to get the Starlight Bottle) and then drink it (at a low enough health; the easiest way to do this is to let the Lookman drain your health) when Rush spawns.
- In Multi-player, if someone who has a Starlight Bottle triggers a Glitch Fragment, it could get duplicated and therefore, another player can take it.
Pros and Cons Pros and Cons
Pros[edit | edit source]
- Heals a great amount of health.
- Can be used to create Curious Light's rift.
- If used at the right time, it can protect you completely from Rush and Ambush, if you are hit with MORE than 25 Star Shield and are at full health.
- Gives a strong speed boost which can give you enough time to hide from highly damaging attacks such as from Rush or to run away from Entities such as Seek.
- You can survive Rush, Ambush or A-60 by drinking it at full health.
- Gives an absorption extra health if you have full hp.
- Gives a limited light resource.
- Can be stacked with vitamins to make yourself even faster.
- Has a low price of 100 coins, and does not subtract any gold when purchased, meaning it can be used to fully heal up if the player has taken substantial damage from the Backdoor‘s entities.
- It can get duplicated by glitched entities from Glitch Fragment.
- Can prevent the death of a player if they are using the Last Breath modifier, only if the entity who deals the damage to a player is not equal/higher to 50 or an instant death entity.
Cons[edit | edit source]
- The speed boost cannot be stacked by other starlight items.
- The potion's effects have a short duration.
- Stack limit of one prevents the user from buying many of this item before leaving The Backdoor.
- Can only be obtained at the end of The Backdoor, which may be tedious.
- The second rift will disappear once an item is taken out of it, requiring another Starlight Bottle to be put in the main rift to respawn it.
- Star Shield cannot save players from instant death entities such as Seek, Figure, Dread, A-120, Haste, and Queen Grumble (On chases sequences/Second Seek Chase attacks ). This includes hazards such as Seek's many minions (hands, sludge, worm, etc.), falling to your death or crashing your minecart during Seek's chase in The Mines, drowning, exploding by lighter detonation or suffocating in a Firedamp room or dying by falling out of the map because of Glitch being unsuccessful in rescuing a player.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Rift it creates is a perfect place to store the Starlight Jug, since the Rift will only disappear when an item is taken out, the Starlight Jug can be kept inside safely while still being able to use the main Rift for future runs.
- According to RediblesQW, the Starlight Bottle (and thus by extension all other Starlight potions) taste like pickle juice.[2]
- It can protect a player from Rush or Ambush because these entities do 125 and 100 damage, respectively, which is enough to kill a normal player with 100 health but is survivable with a Starlight Bottle, since it can increase the player's health to 150 (assuming their maximum health is 100 HP). Ambush and Blitz are also survivable with a Vial of Starlight, but Rush and A-60 aren't.
- The Starlight Bottle is one of the couple starlight items obtainable by Candy, the other being Vial of Starlight.
- The Starlight Bottle might have been a way for the developers to actually add the Shield Potion from the Super Hard Mode Event into the game.
- You get a special dialogue line from El Goblino when you hold the Starlight Bottle. El Goblino will say "Wh-what is dat, hombre? A golden liquid... beautiful! Oye... can I have a sip?"
- This dialogue also appears when you hold out the Vial of Starlight, and the Starlight Jug (needs confirmation.)
