- Lost In Translation Achievement description
The Moonlight Candle (also known as the Rift Candle in the files, or as the Possessed Candle according to the meshes) is an exclusive item that can be created in The Hotel.
Usage[edit | edit source]
When the Moonlight Candle is equipped, it will already be lit (unlike the candle, which needs a lighter to light). The Moonlight Candle's main usage is it's ability to detect entities. When an entity spawns, the Moonlight Candle's flame will be extinguished. In order to get a Moonlight Candle, players must place a normal candle into a Rift. It emits a bright blue/cyan light around the player with a large radius. Creating the item grants the "Lost In Translation achievement.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- It is possible to get a regular candle and store it in a Rift before The Reception room closes.
- To achieve this, however, a player must get a Candle in door 0-4 in order to store it in a Rift in The Reception.

Pros and Cons Pros and Cons
Pros[edit | edit source]
- Relatively good durability.
- Large radius.
- Very great for multiplayer runs.
- Detects most dangerous incoming entities.
- Doesn't need a spark to light.
- Unlike multiple light sources, it does not alert Figure when equipped.
- Does not trigger Firedamp gas (Likely because its flame is powered by Guiding Light, not by a normal fire)
- Useful for The Greenhouse.
Cons[edit | edit source]
- Doesn't work in Sub-Floors, because Guiding Light doesn't appear here.
- Difficult and time-consuming for some players to obtain, requiring you to place a regular Candle into Moonlight Rift.
- Fuel cannot be replenished and must be swapped.
- Cannot be bought in any Shops.
- Cannot be used underwater or while wet.
- Attracts Gloombats.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Moonlight Candle cannot detect the Figure, and will not attract it.
- The Moonlight Candle will emit sound that sounds like a part of Guiding Light's theme when burned out.
- The Moonlight Candle's icon and meshes were leaked in the past, originally thought it was going to be a skin you can buy with Knobs for the candle.
- The Moonlight Candle's handle is a crescent moon and, on top of it's base, there is also a moon symbol which represents the Guiding Light, implying that they are powering the item.
- The Moonlight Candle detects all of the following entities:
- The Moonlight Candle does not detect the following entities:
- The Moonlight Candle does not work in water.
- If a player already had a candle in a rift before Floor 2 Update, it would not turn into a Moonlight Candle.
- However, if they take it out of a rift and place it back again, it will transform into the Moonlight Candle.
- If a Candle is placed into Curious Light's Rift, it will not turn into a Moonlight Candle. This is likely because the Moonlight Candle is powered by the Guiding Light, while Curious Light's Rift is made by Curious Light, therefore it is not capable of mutating it.
- Despite not being a regular Candle, when its fuel runs out, the message is still "Your Candle ran out.", just the same as the normal counterpart. However, its former name was conjecturally given due to the fact how its meshes' names refer to it as "PossessedCandle" or how it's attributes refer to it as "Moonlight Candle".
- Before The Content Update, the Moonlight Candle couldn't detect The Rooms entities even when they are present in The Hotel and The Mines through the use of modifiers, but after the update, it does.
- A way to get the candle easier is using modifiers that make the game easier, while not disabling the rift, for example "Didn't Skip Leg Day", "Good Time", "Bug Spray", and if you want, "Voice Acting".
- The Moonlight Candle will have infinite durability in the next update.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- There is a bug where the Moonlight Candle doesn’t go out when an entity spawns. The original candle’s old mechanic had this bug too.
- There is a bug where if you try to swap two Moonlight Candles at once, while the one in hand is full, instead of it saying 1/1, it says 300/300 (Moonlight Candle's durability). This is only possible while spamming the interact button, as Moonlight Candles will fill each other upon normal interactions.
- This was fixed in The Content Update.
- Sometimes, when a player's Moonlight Candle runs out of fuel, it cannot be removed from the inventory.
- The Moonlight Candle cannot be dropped as well.
