"Batteries not included"
- Pre-Run Shop
The Flashlight is a type of light source item that can be found in containers. It can be bought at The Hotel and The Mines' Pre-Run Shop, and also has a 60% chance to be sold in the Jeff Shop in The Hotel and a 100% in The Mines.
Usage
When equipped, the Flashlight can be an excellent source of light while also actively draining its batteries. Draining it completely will render it useless until the player obtains more batteries. It can be switched on and off in order to save its energy.
Notes
- Flashlights can spawn as early as Door 1 in The Hotel[1] and The Adit in The Mines[2] in normal gameplay, and as early as The Reception in Super Hard Mode.
- Holding out and using a light source (including flashlights) reduces the chance of Screech spawning.
- Therefore, it is strongly recommended that flashlights and other light sources are only used in dark rooms.
- This does not work on the "I'm Everywhere" modifier, as Screech can spawn in any room when this modifier is enabled.
- Each battery used to charge a flashlight grants it 60 seconds of usability; a flashlight with a full charge can be turned on for 2 continuous minutes before being depleted.
- Each battery recharges 50% of a flashlight's power, meaning that a flashlight needs two batteries to be fully charged.
- If the flashlight has over 100% charge, the power may fill 10% over the original constraint.
- A flashlight will remain in a player's inventory even if its charge has been fully drained. Effectively, it will be "unusable" until the player uses batteries to charge it.
- Flashlights will be unable to spawn if any player already has a flashlight (or a lighter in The Hotel) in its inventory.
- Before The Hunt Update, every player had to have a flashlight (or a lighter) for this to start happening.
- Similar to the lighter, a flashlight can be swapped for another flashlight with a higher charge.
- Should a player have a Spotlight in their inventory in The Mines, and no other player has found another Flashlight, they will stop spawning.
Pros and Cons Pros and Cons
Pros
- Long range directional and pretty bright light.
- Decent fuel time of 2 minutes maximum.
- Batteries can add up extra 1 minute of fuel time. (2/4 bar)
- Available on both Pre-Run and Jeff Shop.
- Can stun Giggles.
- It is not removed from the inventory when the fuel runs out.
- Does not cause a Firedamp leak explosion.
Cons
- Causes Gloombats to be aggravated when left on.
- Being wet makes the Flashlight malfunction.
- Can randomly flicker and turn off by itself, causing Figure to hear it. Also applies when turning the Flashlight on or off.
- Rarely spawns on any containers in The Hotel.
- Somewhat more expensive on The Mines' Pre-Run shop and both Pre-Run shops only start with 50% battery.
Bugs
- Grumbles and Queen Grumble are unable to be blinded with Spotlight or Flashlight. This bug started happening since The Content Update.
Trivia
- When a flashlight is turned on with charge or less, it momentarily flickers to indicate the low power.
- Further, when it is turned on with power or less, it fails to light up at first, causing the player to hit it in order for it to light.
- After the The Hunt update, the flashlight was given revamped animations when used, along with a new model, however the duration was reduced from 3 minutes to 2 minutes and the light was changed to be brighter.
- However, when using the SUPER HARD MODE or HOTEL- modifier, it still uses the old model and animations because it's an older version of the game.
- Compared to the old and new model, The new model's power button moves to indicate if it is turned on and off.
- When the Flashlight dies, the light abruptly shuts off, causing the player to hit the flashlight two times, with the flashlight failing to turn on.
- Before The Mines update, if the player makes it to the end of the game while still having their Flashlight in hand and it still having charge left, they can still freely turn the Flashlight on and off during the game's final cutscene.
- In the past, if a player held a flashlight and charged it with a battery, a message above their hotbar would say "You used the battery to charge your Flashlight". This was removed after the Hotel+ update. In the current game, a visual representation of the flashlight will appear when charging a flashlight and display the battery increasing its charge.
- The Flashlight is the only item purchasable both in The Hotel, and The Mines Pre-Run-Shop
- The Flashlight is one of the rarest items to spawn in The Hotel.
- The Flashlight is the only item that costs
200 in the Jeff Shop.
- When the Flashlight is at 1/4 bar its fuel bar will flicker from white to red repeatedly.
- If the player attempts to turn on a Flashlight during or after being underwater, it will be malfunctioned and turn off or flicker after a few seconds.
- RediblesQW confirmed that they will be adding more uses for the Flashlight. [3]
- As of The Hunt update turning on the Flashlight when it is on ~1% Durability and getting lucky enough for it to flicker will cause it to permanently turn on and not deplete until it is unequipped, even when a battery is used.
- When the The Mines Update released, the Flashlight's functionalities have been revamped. It has a chance to flicker, dim or turn off by itself at any time. This increased if the Flashlights' battery was low, or wet. However, in The Content Update, its functionalities can rarely happen.
- The Flashlight can be obtained trading with Louie certain items.
- The Flashlight has a chance of 33.33% to be dropped when using a Crucifix against Louie.
- The Flashlight has a chance of 20% to be dropped by Louie when giving them a Bandage Pack, Battery Pack, a Straplight, Vitamins or Lockpicks.
