The '''Crucifix''' is an [[item]] [[player]]s may use to protect themselves from most hostile [[List of Entities|entities]]. In [[The Hotel]], it is most commonly found as an item for sale in [[Shops#Jeff Shop|Jeff's Shop]], with a 60%<ref><math>\left ( \frac{1}{5} \right )+\left ( \frac{1}{5} \right )+\left ( \frac{1}{5} \right )=\left ( \frac{3}{5} \right )=60% </math> <br />The other not-random item slot is always occupied by the Skeleton Key.</ref> chance of being available to buy. It can also be found in [[containers]], mounted on bedroom walls, suspended over doors, inside chests, and on tables with a <math>\frac{1}{233}</math><ref>For each container, when two random whole numbers between -116 and 116 are identical, the Crucifix spawns.</ref> chance. In [[The Mines]], it can only be found in locked toolboxes, locked lockers, or vine-covered chests. |

When equipped and facing specific [[List of Entities|entities]], it would play an animation where it drags them to hell; giving its user a temporary escape. This was a one-use item and would be removed from your inventory once activated. The entity you used it on would still actively try to hunt you down through later doors. |
If an [[entity]] attempts to attack a player holding the crucifix, the item will levitate out of their hand and chain the entity to the ground. [[Guiding Light]]’s “crescent” symbol will appear on the floor, and a blue fog aura will quickly spin around, dragging the chained entity into the floor as it screams. This prevents all damage from the entity, neutralizing it until the next time it spawns, or when it breaks free. Entities of which the ''crucifix'' is used on can still spawn later in the run. |
=== Notes === |
* Since it was a powerful one-time item, it should have only been activated when you were in complete danger. |
* This item could only be used on [[Rush]] and [[Ambush]]. |
The ''crucifix'' can even be used against boss entities, such as [[Seek]], [[Figure]], and [[Queen Grumble]], but it will only stun the entity temporarily. When the chains the ''crucifix'' produces begin to glow red, that is a sign that the entity is breaking free from it. |
== {{Icons|Negative}} Initial Removal == |
The ''Crucifix'' was removed from ''[[DOORS]]'' for unknown reasons, it is suggested that the tool was removed as it was unbalanced, did not fit the gameplay style for the game, and was potentially buggy. |
The ''crucifix'' is a one-use item and will be removed from the player's inventory upon its usage, however using it on [[Timothy]] will not remove it from the player's inventory. |
Contrary to the reason above, the item has been shown to be returning in the [https://youtu.be/bSTo-0M9Mjg Hotel + Update Teaser Trailer] being used against [[Rush]] with updated VFX, from the trailer it appears that the functionality of the item will be similar, where the entity is stopped but this time it will be held down with chains rather than being dragged under the floor. Also, in the teaser trailer, the item has been shown in pieces and may have to be assembled instead of looting it as a whole. |
=== Effects on the Entities === |
* The crucifix will chain the [[Eyes]], [[Screech]], [[Rush]], [[Ambush]], [[Giggle]], [[Gloombats]], [[Halt]], [[Hide]], [[Sally]], [[Dread]], [[Void|Void,]] the main [[The Backdoor|Backdoor]], [[The Rooms|Rooms]] entities (e.g. A-60, Lookman) and [[Grumble]] and drag them into the floor if used on them, with the item removed from their inventory shortly after. |
** Any entities from sub-floors have to be brought to the [[The Hotel|Hotel]] or [[The Mines|Mines]] through [[modifiers]]. |
* Using it on [[Timothy]] will let the crucifix smack the spider onto the floor, and the item will still be inside the player's inventory. |
* If a player opens a fake door and [[Dupe]] attempts to bite the player who is holding the crucifix, the item will levitate out of their hand and kill Dupe. The door then opens, revealing a hole in the ceiling with Dupe's bones (remains) scattered on the floor. |
* Using it on BOSS entities ([[Seek]], [[Figure]] and [[Queen Grumble]]) will cause the entity just to get chained for a short time, before its strength breaks free from it and it can kill players. |
* An [[Achievements|achievement]] will be given to the player for the first time if they banished a random entity with the ''Crucifix''. |
=== Notes === |
* The ''crucifix'' can spawn in the [[Shops#Jeff Shop|Jeff Shop]], [[containers]],<ref>https://x.com/LightningSplash/status/1820279168745263402</ref> tables, above doors, and on walls. |
* The best way to grind crucifix-related badges are the modifiers: "More Stuff" and "Trick or Treat". The "More Stuff" modifier significantly amplifies the chance of finding a crucifix outside of Jeff, and the "Trick or Treat" modifier contains the candy "Prize Inside" which has a chance of dropping a crucifix. Using these two modifiers will guarantee a pre-Jeff crucifix at 1 in 4 runs. |
** It can only spawn above doors and on walls in certain rooms. Most of these rooms are bedrooms. |
* The ''crucifix'' can spawn before [[The Library]], including in [[The Reception]]. |
* Because it is a powerful one-use item, it should only be equipped when the player is in complete danger and a certain death situation. |
** It is recommended to save the ''crucifix'' for [[The Greenhouse]] (Rooms 90 – 99) because the traps of [[Snare]] and the lack of flickering lights make it difficult to survive [[Rush]], whose chances of spawning drastically increase in that area. |
** Alternatively, using it against [[Ambush]] or Halt is recommended, as they're arguably complicated entities to survive. However, once one is skilled enough to avoid them, it is only worth using the ''crucifix'' again against them if the player is speedrunning. |
** If one is in the path of the Figure and cannot escape it or outrun it, they can use the ''crucifix'' to buy them time to escape before the Figure breaks free. |
** The crucifix use can be used in the Dam especially if the player got lost in path. During crucifix's activity all Seek's attacks will stop and disappear. |
* The ''crucifix'' can only banish hostile entities such as [[Rush]], [[Ambush]], [[Eyes]], [[Screech]], [[Halt]], [[Dupe]], [[Dread]], [[Timothy]], [[Hide]], [[Giggle]]s, [[Grumble]]s, [[The Rooms#A-60|A-60]], [[The Rooms#A-90|A-90]], [[The Rooms#A-120|A-120]], [[The Backdoor#Blitz|Blitz]], [[The Backdoor#Lookman|Lookman]], [[The Backdoor#Haste|Haste]], [[Gloombats]] and [[Sally]]. |
** However, Timothy can not be banished. Instead, it will be smacked away and the crucifix will still be kept in the inventory. |
** [[Louie]] and [[Void]] are exceptions, as both of them can still be banished despite not being hostile towards the player. |
** While the [[Figure]], [[Seek]] and [[Queen Grumble]] are also hostile entities, the ''crucifix'' cannot banish them. It will only stun them for some time. |
*** If an entity successfully escaped the ''crucifix''<nowiki/>'s banishment, the sigil and chains will start glowing red as an early warning to run away or hide quickly. |
** [[Snare]] cannot be banished or stunned by a ''crucifix'' despite being hostile. |
** The ''crucifix'' cannot be used on non-harmful or docile entities such as [[Jack]], [[Shadow]], [[Glitch]], [[Guiding Light]], [[Curious Light]], [[Jeff]], [[El Goblino]], and [[Bob]]. (Except Louie) |
***Attempting to use the ''crucifix'' on El Goblino will result in him saying "¡Oye! Watch where you swing that thing, hombre! Uff!" |
** The ''crucifix'' does not work on April Fools Exclusive Entities (Jeff The Killer, Banana Peel, Greed, Evil Key, Subspace Tripmine). |
* If a player attempts to use the ''crucifix'' in [[The Rooms]], there will be a message saying "Your ''crucifix'' feels lighter than normal..." |
** The ''crucifix'' works on [[The_Rooms#A-60|A-60]], [[The_Rooms#A-90|A-90]], and [[The_Rooms#A-120|A-120]] in [[The Hotel]] or [[The Mines]] with the modifiers 'Stop Right There' or 'Room For More'. |
*** Since the ''crucifix'' will not affect any entities inside The Rooms, it's recommended to use it before then. However, if the player is aiming to preserve the [[Shakelight]] or [[Jug of Starlight]], it's still a good idea to keep it, to reduce the risk of dying before reaching the [[rift]]. |
*** The ''crucifix'' will however work on ''The Rooms'' entities, as well as [[The Backdoor|Backdoor]] entities if they are present in the Hotel/Mines through the use of [[modifiers]]. |
*** If the Crucifix was used on an entity that is from a sub-floor when the Content Update had initially been released, the ''crucifix'' would glow yellow instead of blue at the end of the animation, implying that Curious Light was banishing them. However, a day later, it was removed and now the sigil will stay blue the entire time. |
* Using the ''crucifix'' against [[Seek]], the [[Figure]] or [[Queen Grumble]] will appear to work at first, though the sigil on the floor will suddenly turn red and the trapped entity will be released as a shattering sound is heard. |
** This is likely due to the strength of the entities; lore-wise, they are important and powerful antagonists, while game-wise they serve as the most extreme tests of the player's skills, and shouldn't be skipped. |
*** Although, even if they shouldn't be skipped, the similar item, the Holy Hand Grenade lets you skip them (Figure only, the Holy Hand Grenade doesn't work on Seek, and super hard mode doesn't exist in The Mines). |
* When using the ''Crucifix'' against Seek and running to past rooms (also including rooms before the chase even started), Seek will immediately kill the player. |
** This is due to a glitch patch of the Hotel+ Update that patched staying in the chase rooms alive after it ended. The patch made a script for Seek to kill any player behind it. |
* The player can only carry one ''crucifix'' at a time. |
* Crucifying a normal Grumble will vanish it off permanently in the area you're in |
** This means that after getting crucified, it respawns on a random part of the nest |
* The ''Crucifix'' can cause special different effects depending on the entity that is crucified. |
** Crucifying [[Eyes]] once will make both Eyes and [[The Backdoor|Lookman]] unable to spawn in the rest of the floor, even with [[modifiers]] like "Always Watching". |
** Crucifying [[Hide]] will make it inactive for the next minute, including its hidden form, its physical form and its [[Heartbeat Control Minigame]] form. |
** Crucifying [[Screech]] will make it unable to spawn for the next 2 minutes and 30 seconds (5 minutes before [[The Content Update]]). Additionally, any Screech that spawns forcibly (for example, via [[Admin Panel]]) will be automatically dodged instantly. |
** Crucifying [[The Backdoor#Haste|Haste]] will add 1 minute to the timer. |
** Crucifying [[Dread]] will reset the time to 11:00 and will make it move extremely slow until the next door is opened. |

* Useless in any Sub-Floor. |
* Useless during [[Seek]]'s minecart chase. |

* Cannot banish [[SCJVEREECH]]. |
== {{Icons|Bugs}} Bugs == |
* There is a glitch where three or more players, each holding a ''crucifix'' and using it on Seek at the same time, will glitch Seek out of the Hotel, and it will be "banished". |
* If a player is attacked by a [[Seek]] Worm from the Dam Seek encounter while holding a ''crucifix'', the ''crucifix'' will activate but the player will still die. |
* It is possible to crucify multiple [[List of Entities|entities]] at the same time.{{Verify}} |
* There was a bug with the first day of [[The Content Update]], after using a crucifix the entity who was banished would appear in their crucifying animation floating in mid-air for a while. |
* There was a problem when using the ''crucifix'' on [[Rush]] or [[Ambush]] when in multiplayer, as the ray-casting of said entities would still kill other players while the entities were getting banished by the ''crucifix''. |
== {{Icons|Trivia}} Trivia == |
* The ''crucifix'' effect had been missing some extra cool visuals on it because a part was unanchored. Currently, this has now been fixed.<ref>https://x.com/LightningSplash/status/1859437853375119839</ref> |
* There is a [[Merchandise|UGC]] item based on the ''crucifix'', called "[https://www.roblox.com/catalog/13584349278/Activated-Crucifix Activated ''Crucifix'']". |
** It is currently the second UGC item based on an item rather than an entity, with the other being the [https://www.roblox.com/catalog/109928055499333/DOORS-Straplight Straplight] UGC, except technically the [https://www.roblox.com/catalog/13584320430/Big-Tip-Jar Big tip jar] UGC because the item it is based on, [[Secrets|the tip jar]], can be obtained as an item with exploits, using the admin panel, when the option 'free item' is voted during the chat control modifier active or while playing with "Trick or Treat" modifier active.[https://www.roblox.com/catalog/13584320430/Big-Tip-Jar] |
* The sigil that appears beneath the entity while it is being banished/stunned resembles the Seal of Solomon, otherwise known as a hexagram. |
** It also contains a crescent in the middle of the hexagram, which is depicted as the Islamic crescent. To depict it, it has to be paired with a five-pointed star. |
** The sigil's outer circle depicts a more exact representation of the phases of the Moon. |
** In the sigil's inner circle is a message in the font "WingDings", a font that displays letters as symbols. When translated and ran through the Caesar cipher, reads "One Of The Three Architects Marked By Celestials Assists You." |
* The ''crucifix'' seems to be a religion-based item in Doors even though the developers say that Doors is not meant to be a religious game. This is because the cross shape of the item represents Christianity, the sigil on the ground represents two religions, the crescent in the middle represent Islam, and the "circle" around the crescent represents Judaism through the Star of David. |
** The ''crucifix''<nowiki/>'s existence does not mean that ''DOORS'' is going in a religious direction, only taking inspiration from it.<ref>[https://twitter.com/RediblesQW/status/1596955852899946497?cxt=HHwWgsCo4eO4w6ksAAAA "the crucifix in DOORS does not mean that the game is going in a religious direction at all"] – RediblesQW, Twitter</ref> |
** The ''crucifix'' is technically a simple cross; for it to be defined as a proper crucifix, it must depict [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus Christ] on it, but this probably doesn't happen due to ROBLOX's TOS. |
* The ''crucifix'' is in the shape of the Latin Cross and resembles the Blessing Cross. |
* The ''crucifix'' is connected with the [[Guiding Light]], as when it's activated, the chains appear to be the same color as it, along with cross turning blue before it disappears. This also applies even if the ''crucifix'' is failing to work, though the chains eventually glow red and break. |
** This also supports that the Guiding Light is not present in [[The Rooms]], as wielding the ''crucifix'' will give the player a message saying "Your ''crucifix'' feels lighter than normal..." and will not work against the entities that inhabit The Rooms. This adds that Guiding Light powers the item. |
** The crescent is also associated with the Guiding Light. |
** In the first few hours of the Content Update, if players used a ''crucifix'' on sub-floor entities (using modifiers), the crucifix effects would become yellow after a short period of time. This has been temporarily removed, as other changes to the ''crucifix'''s animation during the content update had caused it to not properly pull entities into the ground. It is unknown when this will be added back. |
** When the crucifix fails to banish the boss entities ([[Seek]], [[Figure]] and the [[Queen Grumble]]), the chains will glow red and the entity will be freed. One theory states that the [[The Three Architects|Red Architect]] prevent [[Guiding Light]] from banishing those entities. However, this is neither confirmed nor denied. |
* [[Dread]] and [[The Rooms#A-120|A-120]] are the only entities that can kill other players during crucifixion. |
* Dread, Eyes, A-60, A-90, A-120, Blitz, Lookman, and Haste are the only entities who change their appearance during the crucifixion. |
* Timothy is the only entity that can be "crucified" without taking the ''crucifix'' away from your inventory. |
* After the Mines update, the ''crucifix'' is smaller when equipped, but the player still holds it the same way, even though it has moved to the right hand. |
* There is reason to suspect that the ''crucifix''<nowiki/>'s design is inspired by ''Phasmophobia''<nowiki/>'s crucifix due to the similarity in their designs. Both have a similar use of animation, with the crucifix burning/lighting up and then breaking.{{Fact}} |
* The ''crucifix'' might also be inspired by the [[w:c:minecraft:Totem of Undying|Totem of Undying]] from the game ''Minecraft''. Both items rotate when used disappear from inventory, and save the player from death. To be activated, they must be held. |
** However, a difference between the ''crucifix'' from the Totem of Undying is that the ''crucifix'' is activated when the player has taken damage or is about to die, while the Totem of Undying activates when the player loses all their health. |
* Crucifixes in popular culture are often known for banishing demons or exorcising them. This may mean that the entities are demons of some sort. |
* The players cannot use more than one ''crucifix'' on one entity; if they attempt to do so only one person's ''crucifix'' will be used. |
* Before [[The Content Update]], the ''Crucifix'' couldn't work on The Rooms entities even when they are present in The Hotel and The Mines through the use of modifiers, but after the update, it does. |
<!-- elaborate: what is the 'rotating sound'-- "* When standing and walking near the ''crucifix'', the rotating sound can be heard."--> |
== {{Icons|Trivia}} Strategy == |
* Using a ''crucifix'' on [[Ambush]] is effective if there are not enough closets or if a player is inexperienced. |
* Using a ''crucifix'' on [[Seek]] can be useful in the [[2023 April Fools Event]], or if the player runs in the wrong direction. This is also useful if the player gets a lag spike mid-chase. |
* Using a ''crucifix'' on [[Halt]] is useful for inexperienced players as Halt is a difficult entity to pass. |
* If [[Void]] is likely to appear and the player is not in low health and wants to use the ''crucifix,'' later on, unequip the ''crucifix'' immediately to prevent it being consumed by Void. |
* It is not recommended to use the ''crucifix'' on entities such as [[Dupe]] or [[Eyes]] as such entities are easy to avoid. |
** Unless the player wants the associated badge to unlock [[Modifiers|modifier]] options. |
* If the player is using safe spots to hide from either Rush or Ambush, holding the ''Crucifix'' out while being at the safe spot can be a great way to ensure survival if in case either Rush or Ambush catches the player at the safe spot, the ''Crucifix'' will be used, saving all/most players hiding at that spot, and if the safe spot worked, the ''Crucifix'' will not activate, which can be saved for later. |

</option>
</choose> The Crucifix is an item players may use to protect themselves from most hostile entities. In The Hotel, it is most commonly found as an item for sale in Jeff's Shop, with a 60%[1] chance of being available to buy. It can also be found in containers, mounted on bedroom walls, suspended over doors, inside chests, and on tables with a [2] chance. In The Mines, it can only be found in locked toolboxes, locked lockers, or vine-covered chests.
Usage
If an entity attempts to attack a player holding the crucifix, the item will levitate out of their hand and chain the entity to the ground. Guiding Light’s “crescent” symbol will appear on the floor, and a blue fog aura will quickly spin around, dragging the chained entity into the floor as it screams. This prevents all damage from the entity, neutralizing it until the next time it spawns, or when it breaks free. Entities of which the crucifix is used on can still spawn later in the run.
The crucifix can even be used against boss entities, such as Seek, Figure, and Queen Grumble, but it will only stun the entity temporarily. When the chains the crucifix produces begin to glow red, that is a sign that the entity is breaking free from it.
The crucifix is a one-use item and will be removed from the player's inventory upon its usage, however using it on Timothy will not remove it from the player's inventory.
Effects on the Entities
- The crucifix will chain the Eyes, Screech, Rush, Ambush, Giggle, Gloombats, Halt, Hide, Sally, Dread, Void, the main Backdoor, Rooms entities (e.g. A-60, Lookman) and Grumble and drag them into the floor if used on them, with the item removed from their inventory shortly after.
- Using it on Timothy will let the crucifix smack the spider onto the floor, and the item will still be inside the player's inventory.
- If a player opens a fake door and Dupe attempts to bite the player who is holding the crucifix, the item will levitate out of their hand and kill Dupe. The door then opens, revealing a hole in the ceiling with Dupe's bones (remains) scattered on the floor.
- Using it on BOSS entities (Seek, Figure and Queen Grumble) will cause the entity just to get chained for a short time, before its strength breaks free from it and it can kill players.
- An achievement will be given to the player for the first time if they banished a random entity with the Crucifix.
Notes
- The crucifix can spawn in the Jeff Shop, containers,[3] tables, above doors, and on walls.
- The best way to grind crucifix-related badges are the modifiers: "More Stuff" and "Trick or Treat".
- It can only spawn above doors and on walls in certain rooms. Most of these rooms are bedrooms.
- The crucifix can spawn before The Library, including in The Reception.
- Because it is a powerful one-use item, it should only be equipped when the player is in complete danger and a certain death situation.
- It is recommended to save the crucifix for The Greenhouse (Rooms 90 – 99) because the traps of Snare and the lack of flickering lights make it difficult to survive Rush, whose chances of spawning drastically increase in that area.
- Alternatively, using it against Ambush or Halt is recommended, as they're arguably complicated entities to survive. However, once one is skilled enough to avoid them, it is only worth using the crucifix again against them if the player is speedrunning.
- If one is in the path of the Figure and cannot escape it or outrun it, they can use the crucifix to buy them time to escape before the Figure breaks free.
- The crucifix use can be used in the Dam especially if the player got lost in path. During crucifix's activity all Seek's attacks will stop and disappear.
- The crucifix can only banish hostile entities such as Rush, Ambush, Eyes, Screech, Halt, Dupe, Dread, Timothy, Hide, Giggles, Grumbles, A-60, A-90, A-120, Blitz, Lookman, Haste, Gloombats and Sally.
- However, Timothy can not be banished. Instead, it will be smacked away and the crucifix will still be kept in the inventory.
- Louie and Void are exceptions, as both of them can still be banished despite not being hostile towards the player.
- While the Figure, Seek and Queen Grumble are also hostile entities, the crucifix cannot banish them. It will only stun them for some time.
- If an entity successfully escaped the crucifix's banishment, the sigil and chains will start glowing red as an early warning to run away or hide quickly.
- Snare cannot be banished or stunned by a crucifix despite being hostile.
- The crucifix cannot be used on non-harmful or docile entities such as Jack, Shadow, Glitch, Guiding Light, Curious Light, Jeff, El Goblino, and Bob. (Except Louie)
- Attempting to use the crucifix on El Goblino will result in him saying "¡Oye! Watch where you swing that thing, hombre! Uff!"
- The crucifix does not work on April Fools Exclusive Entities (Jeff The Killer, Banana Peel, Greed, Evil Key, Subspace Tripmine).
- If a player attempts to use the crucifix in The Rooms, there will be a message saying "Your crucifix feels lighter than normal..."
- The crucifix works on A-60, A-90, and A-120 in The Hotel or The Mines with the modifiers 'Stop Right There' or 'Room For More'.
- Since the crucifix will not affect any entities inside The Rooms, it's recommended to use it before then. However, if the player is aiming to preserve the Shakelight or Jug of Starlight, it's still a good idea to keep it, to reduce the risk of dying before reaching the rift.
- The crucifix will however work on The Rooms entities, as well as Backdoor entities if they are present in the Hotel/Mines through the use of modifiers.
- If the Crucifix was used on an entity that is from a sub-floor when the Content Update had initially been released, the crucifix would glow yellow instead of blue at the end of the animation, implying that Curious Light was banishing them. However, a day later, it was removed and now the sigil will stay blue the entire time.
- The crucifix works on A-60, A-90, and A-120 in The Hotel or The Mines with the modifiers 'Stop Right There' or 'Room For More'.
- Using the crucifix against Seek, the Figure or Queen Grumble will appear to work at first, though the sigil on the floor will suddenly turn red and the trapped entity will be released as a shattering sound is heard.
- This is likely due to the strength of the entities; lore-wise, they are important and powerful antagonists, while game-wise they serve as the most extreme tests of the player's skills, and shouldn't be skipped.
- Although, even if they shouldn't be skipped, the similar item, the Holy Hand Grenade lets you skip them (Figure only, the Holy Hand Grenade doesn't work on Seek, and super hard mode doesn't exist in The Mines).
- This is likely due to the strength of the entities; lore-wise, they are important and powerful antagonists, while game-wise they serve as the most extreme tests of the player's skills, and shouldn't be skipped.
- When using the Crucifix against Seek and running to past rooms (also including rooms before the chase even started), Seek will immediately kill the player.
- This is due to a glitch patch of the Hotel+ Update that patched staying in the chase rooms alive after it ended. The patch made a script for Seek to kill any player behind it.
- The player can only carry one crucifix at a time.
- Crucifying a normal Grumble will vanish it off permanently in the area you're in
- This means that after getting crucified, it respawns on a random part of the nest
- The Crucifix can cause special different effects depending on the entity that is crucified.
- Crucifying Eyes once will make both Eyes and Lookman unable to spawn in the rest of the floor, even with modifiers like "Always Watching".
- Crucifying Hide will make it inactive for the next minute, including its hidden form, its physical form and its Heartbeat Control Minigame form.
- Crucifying Screech will make it unable to spawn for the next 2 minutes and 30 seconds (5 minutes before The Content Update). Additionally, any Screech that spawns forcibly (for example, via Admin Panel) will be automatically dodged instantly.
- Crucifying Haste will add 1 minute to the timer.
- Crucifying Dread will reset the time to 11:00 and will make it move extremely slow until the next door is opened.
Pros and Cons Pros and Cons
Pros
- Can banish almost all of the Entities in Main Floors.
- Can be used to stun Seek, Figure, or Queen Grumble to escape.
- Very useful against Most Instant Death Entities.
- Can eliminate Void Damage.
- Most useful in Multiplayer.
- Can save you in The Dam.
Cons
- Can not successfully banish the Figure, any form of Seek, or the Queen Grumble.
- Rare to find it on or in any Containers in The Hotel and Vine-Covered Chests in The Mines.
- The most expensive item at Jeff Shop (in The Hotel only), costing
500.
- Not guaranteed to find at Jeff Shop in The Hotel, and is rarely found in The Mines.
- Only a single crucifix can be held at a time per player.
- Will make Seek, Figure, or Grumbles collide, making them sometimes block a path.
- Some entities like Snare, Jack and Glitch cannot be affected.
- Useless in any Sub-Floor.
- Useless during Seek's minecart chase.
- Useless on most of the SUPER HARD MODE!!! entities
- Cannot banish SCJVEREECH.
Bugs
- There is a glitch where three or more players, each holding a crucifix and using it on Seek at the same time, will glitch Seek out of the Hotel, and it will be "banished".
- If a player is attacked by a Seek Worm from the Dam Seek encounter while holding a crucifix, the crucifix will activate but the player will still die.
- It is possible to crucify multiple entities at the same time.[verification needed]
- There was a bug with the first day of The Content Update, after using a crucifix the entity who was banished would appear in their crucifying animation floating in mid-air for a while.
- There was a problem when using the crucifix on Rush or Ambush when in multiplayer, as the ray-casting of said entities would still kill other players while the entities were getting banished by the crucifix.
Trivia
- The crucifix effect had been missing some extra cool visuals on it because a part was unanchored. Currently, this has now been fixed.[4]
- There is a UGC item based on the crucifix, called "Activated Crucifix".
- It is currently the second UGC item based on an item rather than an entity, with the other being the Straplight UGC, except technically the Big tip jar UGC because the item it is based on, the tip jar, can be obtained as an item with exploits, using the admin panel, when the option 'free item' is voted during the chat control modifier active or while playing with "Trick or Treat" modifier active.[1]
- The sigil that appears beneath the entity while it is being banished/stunned resembles the Seal of Solomon, otherwise known as a hexagram.
- It also contains a crescent in the middle of the hexagram, which is depicted as the Islamic crescent. To depict it, it has to be paired with a five-pointed star.
- The sigil's outer circle depicts a more exact representation of the phases of the Moon.
- In the sigil's inner circle is a message in the font "WingDings", a font that displays letters as symbols. When translated and ran through the Caesar cipher, reads "One Of The Three Architects Marked By Celestials Assists You."
- The crucifix seems to be a religion-based item in Doors even though the developers say that Doors is not meant to be a religious game. This is because the cross shape of the item represents Christianity, the sigil on the ground represents two religions, the crescent in the middle represent Islam, and the "circle" around the crescent represents Judaism through the Star of David.
- The crucifix is in the shape of the Latin Cross and resembles the Blessing Cross.
- The crucifix is connected with the Guiding Light, as when it's activated, the chains appear to be the same color as it, along with cross turning blue before it disappears. This also applies even if the crucifix is failing to work, though the chains eventually glow red and break.
- This also supports that the Guiding Light is not present in The Rooms, as wielding the crucifix will give the player a message saying "Your crucifix feels lighter than normal..." and will not work against the entities that inhabit The Rooms. This adds that Guiding Light powers the item.
- The crescent is also associated with the Guiding Light.
- In the first few hours of the Content Update, if players used a crucifix on sub-floor entities (using modifiers), the crucifix effects would become yellow after a short period of time. This has been temporarily removed, as other changes to the crucifix's animation during the content update had caused it to not properly pull entities into the ground. It is unknown when this will be added back.
- When the crucifix fails to banish the boss entities (Seek, Figure and the Queen Grumble), the chains will glow red and the entity will be freed. One theory states that the Red Architect prevent Guiding Light from banishing those entities. However, this is neither confirmed nor denied.
- Dread and A-120 are the only entities that can kill other players during crucifixion.
- Dread, Eyes, A-60, A-90, A-120, Blitz, Lookman, and Haste are the only entities who change their appearance during the crucifixion.
- Timothy is the only entity that can be "crucified" without taking the crucifix away from your inventory.
- After the Mines update, the crucifix is smaller when equipped, but the player still holds it the same way, even though it has moved to the right hand.
- There is reason to suspect that the crucifix's design is inspired by Phasmophobia's crucifix due to the similarity in their designs. Both have a similar use of animation, with the crucifix burning/lighting up and then breaking.[citation needed]
- The crucifix might also be inspired by the Totem of Undying from the game Minecraft. Both items rotate when used disappear from inventory, and save the player from death. To be activated, they must be held.
- However, a difference between the crucifix from the Totem of Undying is that the crucifix is activated when the player has taken damage or is about to die, while the Totem of Undying activates when the player loses all their health.
- Crucifixes in popular culture are often known for banishing demons or exorcising them. This may mean that the entities are demons of some sort.
- The players cannot use more than one crucifix on one entity; if they attempt to do so only one person's crucifix will be used.
- Before The Content Update, the Crucifix couldn't work on The Rooms entities even when they are present in The Hotel and The Mines through the use of modifiers, but after the update, it does.
Strategy
- Using a crucifix on Ambush is effective if there are not enough closets or if a player is inexperienced.
- Using a crucifix on Seek can be useful in the 2023 April Fools Event, or if the player runs in the wrong direction. This is also useful if the player gets a lag spike mid-chase.
- Using a crucifix on Halt is useful for inexperienced players as Halt is a difficult entity to pass.
- If Void is likely to appear and the player is not in low health and wants to use the crucifix, later on, unequip the crucifix immediately to prevent it being consumed by Void.
- It is not recommended to use the crucifix on entities such as Dupe or Eyes as such entities are easy to avoid.
- Unless the player wants the associated badge to unlock modifier options.
- If the player is using safe spots to hide from either Rush or Ambush, holding the Crucifix out while being at the safe spot can be a great way to ensure survival if in case either Rush or Ambush catches the player at the safe spot, the Crucifix will be used, saving all/most players hiding at that spot, and if the safe spot worked, the Crucifix will not activate, which can be saved for later.
