</option> </choose> The Queen Grumble is a hostile entity in DOORS and the secondary antagonist in The Mines, primarily appearing in The Nest and The Sewage Pipes. It was added in The Mines Update.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The Queen Grumble is the queen of the Grumbles, being a matured Giggle; a giant, beige-colored creature with 8 tentacles, a smiling mouth with 20 white teeth, a tongue, small pink lips, two large pink eyes with several smaller eyes above and below them, and two lines above its mouth that resemble a nose. It is slightly larger than the standard Grumbles and has a large darkish-pink stretch mark on its forehead, which is how other Grumbles can tell it is the queen.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
The Queen Grumble is primarily encountered in The Nest and it behaves largely the same as the standard Grumbles. However, its movement speed is faster than that of standard Grumbles, precisely 150% faster; it can easily catch up to players.[1] It doesn't laugh like other Grumbles when spotting a player, making it difficult to know when it's chasing, which shows how skilled it is compared to the other Grumbles, since laughing or giggling is an uncontrollable, involuntary act for Grumbles and Giggles. However, it does laugh during these 2 cutscenes: The entrance of The Nest (Right after you finish the first seek chase) and the end of The Mines (The Woods), though likely out of anticipation or excitement out of attempting to kill the player.
Players first encounter the Queen Grumble almost immediately after the conclusion of the first Seek chase. It will then appear inside The Nest, during the second chase of The Nest, Seek's second chase sequence, and the ending cutscene of The Mines.
Just like the standard Grumbles, the Queen Grumble crawls through the nest by using 5 tentacles in the front, while the other 3 drag behind it.
When killing players, the Queen Grumble will (in 1st person) grab the player with its tentacles, open its mouth, then close it, killing the player with a slight delay. In 3rd person, this will appear as if the Queen Grumble is grabbing the player with its tentacles, then biting into them twice, devouring them whole.
The Queen Grumble, after the events of The Nest, pursues the player until the final cutscene of The Mines. This displays its dedication to protecting the colony and The Nest at all costs. This is mainly proven by The Sewage Pipes chase, but is also proven by rooms with Grumble tunnels that run through the middle, signifying that this could be a path of the Queen Grumble when in pursuit of the player.
Queen Grumble can be crucified, although, it will fail. The crucifix effects will become red, signaling that it's breaking free before going back to roaming the Nest.
The Sewage Pipes[edit | edit source]
When the player reaches the end of a long sewer corridor, the Queen Grumble emerges from a hole in the ceiling behind them and roars at the player, only for Seek to appear from a hole punched in the wall, blocking the Queen Grumble behind boulders in the process, forcing it to find another path, before chasing the player. It will interfere with the chase such as appearing behind blocked pathways and blocked pipes, and touching it will instantly kill the player.
The Woods[edit | edit source]
During the final ending cutscene of The Mines, the Queen Grumble emerges ferociously out of the ground while laughing and begins aggressively pursuing players, until suddenly, Seek's hand appears from behind and impales its right eye, spreading its black goo across the Queen Grumble's body, before the Queen Grumble burrows itself into the ground, a mound of seek's slime over the hole. Seek then rises out of the slime, staring at the player(s) before the doors close and the cutscene ends.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
- The Queen Grumble is 150% faster than standard Grumbles, using a Flashlight, Shakelight or Spotlight will help, but it can catch up to players even though it is blinded, keep moving backward with your light source on and try and find a safe spot immediately. Blinding will slow it down to the speed of an unblinded Grumble. (This is currently bugged).
- As the Queen Grumble doesn't laugh, you must rely on screen shaking. You can also rely on the search/roaming sounds. It is recommended to use headsets/headphones/maximum volume/earphones during The Nest.
- After falling off the minecart at the start of the nest, the Queen Grumble will pursue in chasing the player(s). To survive the chase, the player(s) must sprint to the opened gate at the opposite side of the corridor.
- The Queen Grumble, unlike other Grumbles, can quickly patrol through the sub-rooms even if no players have been spotted. If there was, it might repeatedly patrol to the same area a few times until a player either leaves the area or dies.
- During The Sewage Pipes chase, there will be 2 tunnels that the Queen Grumble can emerge from. Avoid whichever tunnel the queen emerges from, as running into it will instantly kill you. You can tell which way the queen is emerging from by which path gets blocked by falling rubble.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- If Queen Grumble catches a player right next to one of the lockers in front of the mesh wall, players may be clipped behind the locker and will be unable to do anything other than move around a little bit.
- If Queen Grumble is outside of the nest, nothing to crawl on, the animations in there doesn't change, depending on the location. Though this is likely as the crawl animation is its default state, being performed without any other restrictions.
- Queen Grumble doesn't laugh, but in the second chase sequence, it has the laughing sound file in the nest chase (On the corridors between two gates on each side.)[citation needed]
- Shining a Spotlight, Flashlight, or Shakelight at the Queen Grumble will not affect it.
- This affects other Grumbles too.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Despite the name, the Queen Grumble, it is not confirmed if Grumbles who are selected for the "queen" role are female.
- The Queen Grumble is approximately 1.5x* faster than the Standard Grumbles. This is also backed up by a Guiding Light message when dying to the Queen Grumble.
- In the game files, the Queen Grumble is classified as "_QueenGrumble" at door 149, "_QueenGrumbleNest" during the nest chase sequences, and "_QueenGrumbleDam" in The Woods.[2]
- The Queen Grumble will only laugh during the first chase sequence, the second Seek chase, and the Door 200 ending cutscene.
- The Queen Grumble's first person and 3rd person killing animations are the same, but it only looks shorter in first person due to the fast cutoff point after being eaten. Either way, the Queen Grumble will still eat the player with 2 long bites, regardless of which perspective.
- According to Guiding Light, Grumbles patrol to protect the Queen Grumble.
- The Queen Grumble has a queen's mark on its head, and it's bigger than standard Grumbles.
- The Queen Grumble is a slightly different color than the normal, paler Grumbles.[3]
- As confirmed by RediblesQW in a CaptainJackAttack video, there was initially an idea to have a pile of Giggles on the Queen Grumble's back, similar to how spiders carry their babies on their back.
- This was scrapped right after due to being a "useless detail" that would be seen either once or never during normal gameplay.
- RediblesQW has stated that his concept for Queen Grumble accession is that when a new Grumble is chosen to become the colony's Queen, it follows a process similar to an "Alpha Wolf" scenario, where the strongest Grumble rises to the role. The Queen Grumble is not inherently different from other Giggles or Grumbles until it grows in size. This growth, which makes the Queen larger than other Grumbles, is seen as a natural progression and could result from genetics, mutation, or being fed by other Grumbles that submit to it. The "Queen's Mark," mentioned in a theory, is interpreted by Redibles as a stretch mark, highlighting the Queen’s larger size.
- Redibles emphasized that there is no definitive answer to how the Queen Grumble grows, and their interpretation is just one concept. Ultimately, the design and growth of the Queen are left to the player's interpretation.[4]

- ↑ "...I concept that when a new Grumble is chosen to be the colonies queen... the strongest Grumble is the one to step up to the role. The Queen's Mark itself could be seen as a stretch mark, left by the fact that the Queen is larger than the other Grumbles, basically the Grumble chosen to be the Queen isn't really any different from other Giggles or Grumbles until it grows in size bigger than its body is physically prepared for. the reason for the queen size could be through genetics, mutation, or being fed by the other Grumbles that submit to it. theres not real correct answer and this is just my internal concepting for the Queen's design, it's more up to the Player's interpretation." – RediblesQW, YouTube (pinned video comment)
