The Guiding Light is a friendly entity in DOORS, appearing in the Hotel. Its main purpose is to assist players by emitting blue auras in certain areas, as well as providing tips upon the player's death.
Behavior
Although not possessive of a physical appearance, the Guiding Light serves a purpose of helping and communicating with the player with its prominent glow, the presence it sparks, and its accurate advice for each hostile entity in various ways, much like Curious Light (although the latter's advice is less helpful and more vague).
Notes
- After the Hotel+ Update, Guiding Light became much, much brighter.
- After being in a Dark Room for around 30 seconds to 1 minute, the Guiding Light will highlight the door to the next room while also lighting up the surrounding area.
- If there is a Room Key in this room, it is also highlighted.
- Guiding Light will also highlight any doors leading to rooms if said room is a Dark Room.
- As of the Hotel+ Update, Guiding Light will appear in any room that requires a key to open after 20 seconds to 1 minute, regardless of whether it is a Dark Room or not (in non-dark rooms, only the Room Key will be illuminated, since there is no need to indicate where the door is).
- If there are Dupe doors in a Dark Room, all the doors will be highlighted in order to make it harder to know which is the real one. However, the real door will be the brightest one.
- The Guiding Light causes important objects to emit a "shiny" sound, such as Library Books, the Solution Paper, Breaker Switches and Room Keys. However, Room Keys will emit a much fainter light than other objects.
- While in both chase sequences with Seek, the Guiding Light will highlight the areas in which the player needs to crouch and the doors they need to enter to progress.
- In the Super Hard Mode, the Guiding Light will not highlight any doors during both chase sequences with Seek.
- When the player enters the Paintings Puzzle Room, the Guiding Light will show the player the frames of each painting, making it easier for them to place paintings correctly.
- When a player dies in a dark room or in a faintly lit room, and they were carrying an item, the Guiding Light will highlight that dropped item.
- Upon the player's death, they will be greeted with a message. This message will vary depending on how the player died, giving tips about how to avoid certain entities.
- When dying to the same entity multiple times, the message will change to give more helpful tips and encourage the player. If the player dies enough times, the death message will repeat the last death message instead of looping to the first death message.
- If the player dies to Seek, the message the Guiding Light gives to the player may vary depending on how far they have gotten in the chase sequence, and how or what they died to.
- Interactions relating to the Guiding Light in some way (i.e. the Candle or Crucifix) do not function while in The Rooms, stating they "feel lighter" when held. Because of this, the Candle does not lose fuel while on hand.
- Even if a dark room is lit by the Guiding Light, Screech can still present Itself.
- A small tweak was made to one of the messages the Guiding Light gives the player if they die to Seek at the part where they have to crouch under obstacles, changing “The lights shall guide you” to “My lights shall guide you”, a more explicit implication of the death messages and the cyan-blue lights being directly connected.
- The Guiding Light will still appear even if the player has escaped from the Dark room or found an item without its help.
Trivia
- The Guiding Light actually has no official name. The origin of the entity's name comes from the name of the death screen background music "Guiding Light". However, the developers have also begun to refer to the entity as the Guiding Light.
- Besides only appearing in Dark Rooms, Locked Rooms, the Library, The Electrical Room, the Painting Puzzle Room and Seek's chase sequences, the Guiding Light does not appear anywhere else in-game.
- There are multiple variations of the same death message depending on where and how you died. (e.g. dying to Seek's hands and Figure's minigame.)
- The official soundtrack used for Death Messages is Guiding Light, which it is called because of its name.
- KreekCraft had a unique death message on a DOORS Livestream. The message said: ‘What... the heck... just happened? I think something’s wrong… Sorry about that, Kreek.'
- During the stream, KreekCraft was being trolled by the developers, such as Screech appearing constantly, several instances of Ambush appearing, and A-60 (an entity from nicorocks5555's Rooms, one of the games DOORS was inspired by) can be seen moving through the doorway with a red glow and a noticeably different sound than Rush and Ambush. This has been confirmed as a troll by the developers. Although it is currently unclear whether or not A-60 is a canon entity due to the existence of The Rooms, the stream took place before they were officially added to the game.
- If the player were to have died to Glitch before its method of delivering Players who were destined to enter unloaded rooms back to their group was given to Void, the Guiding Light was unable to determine who they died to.
- This was due to Glitch being non-canon. Void, however, is canon, and the Guiding Light is able to tell who players died to if killed by Void.
- The texture for the Guiding Light particle was originally called "sanseyelol".
- Wowzers has confirmed that the Guiding Light will never get an Achievement in-game.[1]
- A glitch existed in which the Guiding Light would appear at Door 1.[2]
- The text on the sigil when the Crucifix is used, says "OneOfTheThreeArchitectsMarkedByCelestialsAssistsYou". This is presumably referring to the Guiding Light.
- A variant of the Guiding Light known as the Curious Light appears in The Rooms.
- During the beginning cutscene of the Library, a lamp falls over distracting Figure, is illuminated with blue light for a short duration after the cutscene, which suggests that the Guiding Light knocked it over to create a diversion for the player.
- Ghostly Wowzers has confirmed that both Guiding Light and Curious Light will have a major role in future updates. [3]
- If you cheat in Doors, or well, try to cheat, you will get the Ambush jumpscare. Guiding Light will not say you have died to Ambush, but say ‘bruh’ repeatedly over and over again. If you rejoin, you will have negative revives.
- It's possible Guiding Light is related to Curious Light, as the two have a similar role in the game and they look similar (their appearance on the Death Screen looks like rain, but different colors), but Guiding Light seems to be stronger than Curious Light, Also, Guiding light will turn rooms dark and light the room with itself.
- Guiding Light has knowledge on other entities in the Hotel and how to survive them. This probably makes Guiding Light one of the smartest entities in the game.
