"You died to Dread... Try not to stall. Keep moving!"
- Guiding Light
Dread is a supporting hostile entity of DOORS, appearing in the Hotel, which will attack the player if they idle for too long.
Appearance
Dread appears as a white and blue entity, with multiple holes that appear to be mouths.
Behavior
After the in-game clock reaches midnight (after 1 hour in-game), if the door 13 is opened, Dread will spawn, making the Player's screen darker, having a monotone tint. It will slowly chase them (Dread is barely visible during the chase). If it reaches the player, it will immobilize them, jumpscare them and then kill them. However, if door 14 gets opened (via the player or another entity) Dread will despawn immediately and will not appear for the rest of the run.
Trivia
- Dread behaves similar to Haste from The Backdoor, however Dread's internal timer is unable to be altered, and cannot be stopped.
- Keep track of the time during your run by using the Grandfather Clocks and Wall Clocks throughout the Hotel.
- Still, it's almost impossible to naturally encounter Dread, as the time it takes for it to appear is 1 hour.
- Dread was theorized to be introduced in either Hotel+, or The Mines. However, it was basically shadow-dropped with The Backdoor update.
- Before being added, it was originally teased in a small Sneak Peek for the Hotel+ update.
- The scrapped "Dead of Night" badge seen in a sneak peek is theorized to be for Dread.
- Before being teased, it was originally an anticheat monster which would instakill players who exploited.
- This was then replaced with Anti-Cheat Ambush.
- Many people thought this entity wasn't going to get added.
- The Player can indefinitely be chased by Dread. The chase will only stop if the Player dies or opens the next door.
- Curiously, the music only lasts for almost 2 minutes; it doesn't loop. If Dread is still chasing the player after this, no music will play.
- Dread can't kill the player if they are hiding, but it will wait in front of the hiding spot, making them die when exiting or getting kicked out of the hiding spot by Hide.
- Dread can be crucified using the crucifix.
- However, no achievement is given when crucified, unlike most of the other entities.
- Void is so far the only other crucifiable entity that doesn't give an achievement.
- However, Void hardly has no indication when it's "crucified", and the only way to tell if it did anything is that the crucifix will be gone from the player's inventory.
- Void is so far the only other crucifiable entity that doesn't give an achievement.
- However, no achievement is given when crucified, unlike most of the other entities.
