It plays a key component to access The Rooms.
Overview
The Basement is a guaranteed room to spawn in The Hotel. It consists of a maze-like structure with multiple gates blocking certain areas, vents for crawling to the blocked parts, and a lever that spawns on a random wall in the room. The Basement also contains barrels, tables and Containers, which spawn around the room, as well a cobwebs on the stone walls and an arched ceiling. To get to The Basement, like all gate rooms, players must go down one, in this case, one of two stairwells, that branch from the top room, containing a gate blocking the door to the next room. The Basement always spawns as a Dark Room.
Unlocking The Rooms
The Basement plays a key role in order for players to access The Rooms.
When entering Door 61, players must enter one of two branched stairwells in order to access The Basement. The Basement, unlike its smaller counterparts, will be much bigger and harder to navigate. The lever to proceed to the next room and to unlock the gate to the entrance of The Rooms will spawn on a random wall in The Basement. Sometimes the lever spawns close to the stairwells, making it easier for players to reach, but majority of the time the lever will spawn quite far away. Once the lever has been activated, both gates will open, providing the player to access the The Rooms' entrance.
The Basement can rarely spawn at Door 63 and the entrance to The Rooms will be at Door 64. When this happens, the gate to The Rooms will already be open because the player has already used the lever to progress. There is also a small chance of The Basement spawning at Door 64 and the entrance to The Rooms spawning on Door 66, 67. When this happens, the player cannot enter The Rooms. However, The Rooms' entrance or The Basement cannot spawn before Room 60 and 61 respectively.
Notes
- If the player waits around a minute, Guiding Light will highlight the lever in order to proceed, and the door to the next room. Guiding Light will also emit a blue light that illuminates the surrounding area, making The Basement easier to navigate.
- Although The Basement is dimly lit in some parts, it still classifies as a Dark Room, meaning Screech will spawn as usual, but the likeliness for it to spawn is lower than normal Dark Rooms.
