Its objective is to hurt players who mistake it for an actual door.
Appearance
Dupe appears as a disembodied face emitted with photonic matter with a cheshire ear-to-ear smile. It has two pairs of eyes and a perfect set of teeth while the rest of it's face is infested in darkness.
Behavior
Dupe spawns in the form of a numbered door with the wrong number. For example, the previous door is labeled 24, meaning the player is in room 24 and needs to go to door 25, and the Dupe door spawns as a door labeled 26. To prevent going back to the previous door to see the correct number, the previous door's label is removed and replaced with a burn mark. If a player gets hit by Dupe, the fake door's label falls off for everyone in the server.
There is a chance of one normal door and multiple Dupe doors spawning in one room.
Notes
- If you forget the next door's number, Dupe doors make a soft rumbling noise when near that allow you to differentiate them from normal doors.
- Dupe doors may also have locks on them, provided that the room it spawns in has a room key.
- Using a room key on a Dupe door will not discard it from your inventory.
- Dupe can still spawn during Seek's crescendo; however, it will not appear during the chase itself.
Bugs
- When being jump scared, there could be a bug where the jump scare animation can freeze on your screen while the audio will continue even after the jump scare.
- If you flash a flashlight down a dupe door and you open it, the jumpscare will not play, you won't take damage and the door label will fall off.
Trivia
- Using a crucifix on Dupe gives the Achievement "Outwitted".
- When the crucifix is used on the entity Dupe it stops it and closes the door. It follows with a scream (most likely from Dupe) and blue light is seen coming from under the door ending this with the fake door's label falling off.
- When Dupe hurts you, you get the achievement, "Wrong Room", with the description, "Well this is awkward... Get duped by Dupe".
- Dupe's sprite was not created by Lightning Splash, but instead was created for a mod of the game (the mod that first used it is unclear) that made it harder.
- As long as you remember the correct door, it is possible to complete a successful run without encountering Dupe.
- You can also look at the door number as long as you haven't ventured too far into the room, or you can look at the key (Only if Dupe spawns in a key room)
- The sprite was made for an entity named Smiler, that quickly rushes down rooms and rebounds, with the lights heavily flickering beforehand, representing a harder version of Ambush.
- Dupe can be found in LSPLASH's Twitter profile picture.\
- Dupe has a body although not visible
