"You died to Dread... Try not to stall. Keep moving!"
- Guiding Light
Dread is a supporting hostile entity of DOORS, appearing in the Hotel, which will attack the player if they idle for too long.
Appearance
Dread appears as a white and blue entity, with multiple holes that appear to be mouths.
Behavior
When the in-game clock reaches midnight (after 1 hour in-game) and you open door 13, Dread will make your screen darker, having a monotone tint. It will slowly chase you (Dread is barely visible during the chase). If it reaches you, it will immobilize you, jumpscare you and then kill you. However, if door 14 gets opened (via the player or another entity) Dread will despawn immediately will not appear for the rest of the run.
Trivia
- Dread behaves similar to Haste from The Backdoor, however Dread's internal timer is unable to be altered, and cannot be stopped.
- Keep track of the time during your run by using the Grandfather Clocks and Wall Clocks throughout the Hotel.
- Still, it's almost impossible to naturally encounter Dread, as the time it takes for it to appear is 1 hour.
- Dread was theorized to be introduced in either Hotel+, or The Mines. However, it was basically shadow-dropped with The Backdoor update.
- Before being added, it was originally teased in a small Sneak Peek for the Hotel+ update.
- The scrapped "Dead of Night" badge seen in a sneak peek is theorized to be for dread.
- Before being teased, it was originally an anticheat monster which would instakill players who exploited.
- This was then replaced with Anti-Cheat Ambush.
- Many people thought this entity wasn't going to get added.
- There is a possibility Guiding Light doesn't say anything after dying to it.
