Overview

Firedamp is an orange gas that is found leaking from holes on the ground in some rooms of The Mines. Rooms with Firedamp leaks have red signs with fire icons on their doors, as well as orange gas flowing through the gaps under the doors or out of the rooms if the doors have already been opened.

Behavior

Firedamp is unsafe to breathe and highly flammable. If a player stays in a room filled with this gas for too long, their vision will slowly darken and blur and their hearing will become muffled untiI eventually they pass out and die from suffocation. Additionally, if the player brings a fire item into a Firedamp-filled room, such as a Lighter, and activates it, the gas will ignite and explode, instantly killing them. The Firedamp gas will also act as a light source, although it cannot be relied on in some cases.

Notes

• Screech can still spawn in rooms with Firedamp leaks, in which case it might be harder to detect it since the player's vision and hearing will become reduced.
• Depending on the time you've got left for escaping the room, the camera will tilt more.
• If you start to see your camera tilt and your "eyelids" go down, exit the room quickly. The player is about to die.
• Possessed Candle can't ignite the gas.

• Despite what some think, Firedamp isn’t an entity, and is rather a hazard.
