Screech is an entity that resides in the Hotel. It has a chance to spawn in dark rooms.

Behavior Behavior
Screech will stalk its victims by quietly observing from a distance. The player can be hinted at Screech's presence by listening closely to the very subtle sounds it makes, which is a distinct <nowiki/>'psst sound. If the player is too late in spotting Screech, it will bite the player. The bite depletes 40 health points, and Screech quickly scatters away afterward. Locating Screech in time will still jumpscare the player, but Screech will not cause any harm and will only flee.

Notes
* The player has to look directly at Screech in order to not take any damage, just a quick look at it will not work.
* It is possible for Screech to follow the player out of a dark room, so it is recommended for the player to always check around them after exiting one.
* Having any light source out reduces the chance of Screech appearing in the player's presence.
** Light can be shared with other players. Staying near others with a light source can lower the chances of Screech appearing.
** Light sharing can stack and further reduce the chance of Screech attacking any of the players affected.
* Screech is capable of spawning in without giving the player any notice, but will eventually play the audio cue late, to make its presence known. Except for when the player has bad connection, then the psst sound wouldn’t even play, especially after exiting a dark room, so be sure to check behind you.
* Screech spawns directly behind the player, so it is recommended for players to proceed in a straight line or at a 90-degree angle to help detect where Screech is.
** Screech is most prominently found either on the ceiling, eye level, or on the floor. When dealing with Screech, the player should check the said places first.
** On rarer occasions, Screech will spawn directly beside the player. Although this is not common, and the player should only look next to them after they have confirmed Screech has not spawned behind.
* The "psst" sound Screech makes can also occur outside dark rooms, though this is solely to startle the player and Screech will not spawn.
** The fake audio cue is noticeably quieter and softer than the real one, allowing players to know if Screech has spawned or not.
* If the dark room in question is a locked room, the Guiding Light will eventually appear and highlight the exit and key.
** If the room has a variety of doors and drawers to open and search, it may be ideal to wait for Guiding Light to perform its highlight. If the player has a light source, it is highly recommended to use it.
** If a player has Lockpicks, they should use them on these types of doors, unless they or another player has found a Key already. They should make sure to check for Screech before, or after picking the lock.
**This also reduces the chance of Screech spawning.
* It's possible for Screech to appear while crawling through a vent, as well as while hiding in a hiding spot such as a closet.
** In these situations, the player might not be able to look at Screech due to the system.
*** If that does happen, leave the hiding spot as soon as possible and look at Screech before it bites.
* Even if Seek's eyes are already present in a dark room, Screech could still attack.
* Screech will have a lower chance of spawning in when there are fewer players.
*Screech will not spawn in Halt's hallway regardless of the fake sound that plays when entering a dark room.
** However, on the rare occasion that a dark room leads into Halt's hallway, Screech can follow the player into it.
*When a door is opened to a dark room, an audio cue will play, alerting the player of the room and giving them a chance to turn on their light source.
*Screech<nowiki/>'s "psst" sound has a tiny bit of static at the start, alerting the player of Screech early.
**Screech will also slightly shake the screen when it spawns, but this is only noticeable when standing still.
*Its possible to encounter Screech twice at the same time.
**This can be mainly encountered when Screech follows you out of the first dark room while the second Screech spawns in the second dark room.
**In this case the audio cue also has a chance to overlap, meaning the player may only expect to find one Screech.

Trivia Trivia
* Screech's design is slightly inspired by Bendy and The Ink Machine.
* The slime covering Screech might hint at a connection to Seek.
* Screech was added less than a week before release, due to RediblesQW getting the idea from a nightmare he had the night before.
* Screech can very rarely spawn without the slime on it due to parts not loading in.
** The chances of it will increase if the player is at low graphics, due to Screech's slime having reflections at high graphics.
** This glitch is known as "bald screech".
* There are three codes that reference Screech.
** The SCREECHSUCKS Code is a reference t<nowiki/>o Screech<nowiki/>'s notorious reputation in the DOORS Community.
** PSST is another code referencing the sound Screech makes before it is about to attack the player.
**The LOOKBEHINDYOU is yet another code reference on how to avoid Screech's attack.
